A Person Can Improve His Or Her Appearance With A Tummy Tuck

By Andrew Moore

A Tummy Tuck is a type of cosmetic surgery. There is a variety of reasons one may seek this procedure. A woman may have lost abdominal muscle elasticity due to multiple pregnancies, or a person may have problem pockets of fat that are resistant to other solutions. Regardless of the reason one pursues such surgery, the end result is typically a firmer, well-defined stomach.

Also referred to as abdominoplasty, the goal of such surgery is to tighten the skin and muscles of the stomach region. In numerous instances, the removal of overstretched skin is necessary. The procedure is regarded as major surgery and takes about three to five hours from beginning to end.

General anesthesia is always used during such surgery. Recovery time will vary considerably from one patient to another. However, it generally takes about 30 days before complete recovery occurs.

The surgery can be performed in one of two ways. The first is called a full procedure, during which two incisions are needed. One is made immediately above the pubic area, and the second at the person's waistline. The skin and muscles are then attached from each side of the individual's torso and sutured together.

It is typically necessary to reposition one's belly button after the excess fat and skin are cut away. The surgery results in firmer skin, a narrow waist, and tighter muscles. The results of a full procedure are usually satisfactory according to most patients.

Another alternative patients may wish to give thought to is a partial tummy tuck. It is not as complex as a full procedure, but it typically only affects the area below one's bellybutton. This procedure usually involves liposuction as well, and requires just one incision. Cosmetic surgery is not appropriate for all individuals. Therefore, those who are interested in such procedures should carefully consider all the pros and cons prior to finalizing their plans.
