Tennis: Nadal too strong for Monfils !!

Faced with a catchy Gael Monfils , Rafael Nadal perfectly launched its season Saturday by winning the final of the ATP tournament in Doha. The Spaniard needed three sets and nearly two hours to overcome the French (6-1 , 6-7 , 6-2).

4/20 . That is the record of Gael Monfils during his finals played on the circuit. It is also noted that we could give him at the end of the first set of the match he played Saturday against Rafael Nadal, for the epilogue of the first tournament of the 2014 season played in Doha. Upon arrival , the overall performance was not so bad, thankfully . But French is still inclined (6-1 , 6-7 , 6-2) , the Spanish advantage to win the 61st title of his career , his first in the emirate.

A relative disappointment for the Parisian, who had the merit to raise its head , so , after a first round completely missed . Out of it , perhaps intimidated , " the Monf " was eaten from the baseline by Nadal , who paid the bill in less than half an hour . One starts that could destroy mentally. But in this area, the 31st player in the ATP rankings has the resource and proved it by his opponent breakant input for quickly lead three games to nothing.

All the balls , even those that seemed lost the world number one has been able to make up lost time , winning the battle of the French hitters had imposed . But then again , Gael Monfils did not let go and was awarded the second inning , he looped the tiebreak (7-5 ) with a powerful ace on his third attempt . It is this resentment , this total refusal to surrender , which then allowed him to save three break points in the beginning of the third set.

But then, the debauchery of energy needed to win each point was fatal when, two games to one in favor of " Taurus Manacor ," he finally dropped the flag on his service. The end of illusions. Fabrice Santoro after 2000 , Nicolas Escude in 2004 and Jo- Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet in the last two years it will take to review a French win in Doha. Ten days before the Australian Open, Rafael Nadal , he already sends a clear message.
